So far throughout 2025, we’ve seen trends come and go in interior design. Everyone has their own personal taste, from clothing to the cars we choose, and how we decorate our homes is no exception. In this blog, we’ve compiled the top 5 UK living room trends we’ve seen most throughout the year, with a little insight into the reasons behind them and the benefits they offer.

Clean Contemporary, with a splash of individuality
This trend is best defined as modern minimalism, with a focus on utility and comfort. Less popular now perhaps are the grey-on-white interiors, though their benefits are still present in the emphasis on large, open spaces and natural lighting. Keeping your space visually “clean” in this way is theorised to have psychological benefits including reduced stress levels, less distraction and increased focus. This trend is also seen as rather cost-effective; once the bigger expenses are out of the way, the simplistic approach to design means that customers are less likely to splurge on miscellaneous items that might be present in maximalist spaces.

Retro Chic
Often 70s inspired, this aesthetic relies on textures, soft-edges, curvy furniture and tastefully "clashing" colours. No longer afraid to demonstrate quirky taste within the home, this year many people have been focusing on a curated, eclectic mix of furniture and décor. There is a large focus on warm tones and pattern, reliant on evoking nostalgia as part of the living experience. Natural materials in the hard furnishings such as rattan, wood and wicker are often seen in tandem with colourful, vibrant tones in the soft furnishings.

Earthy and Natural
Soft terracotta, earthy browns, olive and sage tones have increased in popularity this year, and it's truly no surprise as to why. You might have encountered the phrase “biophilic design”, which aims to incorporate the outdoor environment into your interior living space. These grounding colours work beautifully with natural textures and materials such as wood and stone, as these colours belong naturally in the great outdoors. You'll never have to worry about these colours feeling dated, as they've been present both in home design and the outdoor world since the dawn of interior decorating. The softer, less intrusive colours are gentle on the eyes and invite a warm, enduring aesthetic to your home.

Dopamine Décor
This cheery aesthetic is truly delightful and versatile, and can look different for everyone. This interior design trend focuses on vibrant colours and encouraging dopamine release - referring to the chemical in your brain responsible for happiness and pleasure. There's a focus on individualism permeating throughout this design trend – your space, your choices, with happiness exuding from every furnishing and decoration. Lovers of this trend have incorporated everything from checkerboard patterns to neon chintz, favouring visual maximalism at every step of the way.

Colour-drenching
This trend adores a low colour contrast, with decorators leaning into fully colour-coded rooms. A single colour will span across walls and ceilings, including everything from the skirting, coving and architraves, too. Colours are tied to emotions, so when designing a living room you might favour calm and tranquillity, or thought-provoking curiosity and mindfulness. Lighter, airy shades such as sage green and muted blush will help with conjuring serenity, while shades like charcoal, navy and mahogany are traditionally chic and grounding.
