Measure the space available first. As a guide, allow around 60cm of table width for each person, and leave around 90cm between the table edge and the nearest wall or piece of furniture so chairs can be pulled out comfortably. A 4 seater table suits most kitchens and smaller dining rooms, while a 6 or 8 seater table, or an extending dining table, is better for families who host often.
