December is upon us, and the festive season is officially in full swing. Out come the tree and the lights we’re hoping still work as they have for ten years prior, all in preparation for a long-awaited celebration. Households across the UK are preparing their homes for hosting and cosying up this Christmas, and we’ve put together a blog so you can join in on the festive fun this winter.
1. Introduce Seasonal Colours
At this time of year, the right atmosphere can make all the difference for feeling in the festive spirit. Whilst there are many ways to build it, the first port of call is to address the colour schemes at play. Introducing rich jewel tones into your space through thoughtful placement can result in a visually cohesive look that amplifies the cosy atmosphere of the season. Colour choice is up to you - it's your home after all - but many opt for these as they are universally recognised as Christmas colours. Luxuriant shades of emerald and forest greens; ruby, garnet and burgundy reds; and various shades of gold.

2. To Host or not to Host? That is the question.
December often brings gatherings aplenty, so many of you may be considering the logistics of your hosting capabilities, or even just the weather. You might want to ensure seating is never a problem with a larger sofa, ideally in plush fabric to combat the winter chill. Dining is an important factor to consider, too. If your home is on the smaller side, not to worry - extending dining tables can be the perfect solution for this. They're ideal for space saving on a day-to-day basis so that you can move freely through your dining space, or for extending to fit everyone and their grandmother around the table.

3. Layers upon layers.
Winter is cold – who knew? - so layering up in anticipation of dropping temperatures can go hand in hand with festive decoration. A couple of chunky cable-knit throws in jewel tones like we mentioned earlier can emphasise the cosy element of this season, build the atmosphere and ensure that you’re bundled up warm for movie nights and party games. Layers aren't just for blankets; colours and festive paraphernalia can be layered, too, ideal for embodying the whimsy of Christmas.

4. Light it up
Lighting is undoubtably one of the most magical aspects of Christmas. If efficiency remains a top priority, you might want to consider swapping the incandescent lights for LEDs, which save on energy by approximately 80% and last far longer for lower maintenance costs. Outdoor lights can be solar powered, bringing magic to your home’s exterior using the (free) power of the sun. Candles are a top choice for Christmas, both as a light source and point of colour in the home. Combine reds, snowy creams, greens and gold for festive theming, along with scents such as mulled wine, cinnamon and spiced apple.

5. Seasonal décor.
Last but most significant of all, seasonal décor can bring all of the above together in perfect synchronicity. Whether it’s wreaths decorated according to your taste, boughs of holly, sprigs of mistletoe or an assortment of tree decorations, Christmas decorating is as much about the activity as it is about the end result.
