The snowdrops have had their time in the winter sun, and the daffodils have begun to flower. These are signs that spring is on the near horizon, bringing with it warm sun and chasing away the chill. As the new year heralds the light of new possibility and change, it’s the perfect time to do a bit of spring cleaning and rejuvenate your home. In today’s blog, we go through a number of ways that you can spruce up your space in time for the new season, from organisation tricks to redecoration inspiration.
1. Have a big sort-out
When the winter blues have finally departed, you’re likely to feel a fresh boost of energy, perfect for tackling the spring clean. To begin, we’d recommend having a sort out for the things that hold little sentimental value and are collecting dust, from old ornaments to once-loved clothes. Your unwanted items are another’s treasure, and this is the ideal opportunity to sort through your possessions and free up space. This can extend to furniture too, and there’s no time like the present to change it up a bit as the seasons shift.
2. Create a freshly cleaned environment
It’s a better time than ever to get stuck in with a deep clean. Get out the vacuum, mop bucket and duster, and lose yourself in cleaning momentum until you create the fresh slate for your spring rejuvenation. Arguably, this is the most important step - the winter can make us feel drowsy due to the decrease in vitamin-D, and this means that we can sometimes get a little lax with the deep cleaning. Improve air circulation by opening all windows during the clean, wipe surfaces and dust the proverbial rafters. You’ll likely feel better for it, as it gets the blood pumping, and you’re left with a clean house and fresh, springtime air.
3. Swap out winter clothing and bedding
Strip away the remnants of your winter bedding and stow them in favour of lightweight materials for an improved sleep experience. If you’re lacking a little in storage space or would just like the extra option, ottoman bedframes are excellent for concealing winter attire and bedding until they’re needed again. Even the smaller changes such as swapping bedsheets for cooler fabrics can help you recognise the benefits of the seasonal change.
4. Embrace light shades and florals
Spring is all about foliage and florals, and bringing the natural world indoors. Allow the natural light to softly infiltrate, improving mood and brightening your spirit. Greenery can be an excellent way to do this, introduced easily with houseplants or flowers; whilst you can opt for the real ones, there’s no shame in adding some lasting faux botanicals for the aesthetically pleasing visual. Swapping out darker décor for lighter shades can amplify the natural light, and as we discussed in last week’s blog can also cause your home to feel increasingly spacious.
